In 55 patients with Alzheimer’s, treatment with saffron twice daily for 21 weeks was found to be as effective as donepezil for Alzheimer’s treatment.

Saffron spice also improved sexual activity in healthy mice. This effect was mediated by the active chemical crocin however was not seen with safranal.
